Tuition Supplement and Incentive Plan

Dear PYS Parents and Students,                                        Summer 2007

We wish to commend you for pursuing quality music instruction by participating in the Pinellas Youth Symphony.  We recognize that it takes an extraordinary amount of time and effort on the part of both parents and students to attend weekly rehearsals.

One fact that you may not be aware of is that student tuition covers less than 35% of the expenses of PYS.  In order to keep the tuition affordable for most families, the remainder of funding must come from other sources, such as fundraisers, tickets sales from performances, grants and donations.  The Executive Director and Board of Directors (mostly comprised of parent volunteers) are working very hard to raise these funds, but they need your help. We have developed several programs for this purpose.

In order to meet expenses, each PYS family is required to provide an additional $50 supplement to the tuition.  Your family supplement may be donated to PYS in the form of:

  1. A tax-deductible contribution donated directly from your family.
  2. Any tax-deductible contribution(s) acquired from sources outside your immediate family. You may use the Adopt A Student form to make sure that such contributions are properly credited to student's account.
  3. The sale or purchase of any advertisements or special messages to be placed in 2 consecutive concert programs. (see the Partners in PYS form)
  4. A work-job assignment (when available), in which a parent volunteer is assigned a specific job to do at each rehearsal throughout the season. Work jobs can include manning the front entrance information/sign-in tables; being a room parent, hall monitor, or an assistant at concerts, etc.  Consistent, weekly job attendance at rehearsals will result in the waiver of the tuition supplement for the season.

Forms for soliciting contributions are available at the PYS information table at each rehearsal and on the PYS website.

Be sure to include the name of the PYS student on the contribution solicitation forms so that appropriate credit can be given!
