General Audition Information
Pinellas Youth Symphony 2007-2008 Season 

Rehearsals for all orchestras and string classes will take place on Sunday afternoons, beginning September 9, 2007 between the hours of 2:30-7:00 p.m. in the Marcia P. Hoffman Education Institute of Ruth Eckerd Hall.  Specific times for string classes and orchestra rehearsals are posted on this website under the Latest News icon. 

Audition Dates and Process:

Auditions will be held during Labor Day weekend (September 1,2, and 3, 2007) in the Education Institute of Ruth Eckerd Hall. If you are interested in auditioning for an orchestra, please submit the online registration form below. You will receive notice of your assigned audition day and time a week prior to your audition. A $25 non-refundable registration fee will be due at the time of your audition. If you are offered and accept a seat in an orchestra, the fee will be credited toward your tuition.

 

Please note: audition requirements are posted on this website and include an additional requirement of performing appropriate excerpt(s) for acceptance into a specific orchestra. Excerpts are posted on this website under the Membership link and can be downloaded for practice purposes. If you are unable to download the excerpts, notify us by email, stating the instrument you play and for which orchestra(s) you are auditioning. You may contact us by email at pysdirector@yahoo.com  or call the PYS Voicemail at 727-438-4319. A copy of the excerpt(s) will be mailed to you.

PYS Beginning String Classes:

Beginning string classes are offered to students from 5-14 years of age with no prior strings knowledge. PYS also offers an advanced beginner instructional string class for students who have had at least 6 months prior experience. Although there are no audition requirements for acceptance into a string class, a young student must have an attention level which will allow him/her to take part in a one-hour class, without becoming bored or disruptive.  Classes may be offered at alternative south or mid-county sites, provided enough students register.

Pre-registration for Beginning String Classes:

Please complete the online pre-registration form below and submit it online to begin the registration process. This registration will place your child in line for classes which are offered on a first-come/first-served basis. 

Final registration for Beginning String Classes:

Final registration and orientation for first-time string students of PYS will take place on the first day of class, tentatively set for Sunday, September 16th, 2007 (note: this date coincides with the 2nd week of orchestra rehearsals), at the Education Institute of Ruth Eckerd Hall.  Those pre-registered for classes will recieve notification confirming the student's acceptance into a class and the time set for the Orientation Session.

Some scholarships are available for beginning string students and scholarship applications may be submitted during final registration.  If you have difficulty obtaining a string instrument, please contact the Operations Director, Wayne Raymond, at pysoperations@yahoo.com for assistance.
